So, what exactly are we going to do?
Yes, indeed Chowdown is exploring a different country, Portugal it is!
I have spent the month of May in this beautiful country and immediately was taken by it-I wanted to know what the fuss was all about – no wonder it is the flavor of the year. It did not disappoint.
CHOWDOWN PORTUGAL 13 – 26 APRIL 2019
Excited to finally introduce to you Chowdown Portugal April 2019 Tour. So without further ado here are the outlines for our 14-day adventures.
Starting in PONTA DELGADA on the Island of Sao Miguel in the Azores and ending our journey together in the beautiful capital city of LISBON.
CHOWDOWN DOING THE ISLAND OF SAO MIGUEL AZORES
We will meet in Ponta Delgada and explore this gorgeous Island, learn about their local authentic culinary delights-such as cooking in volcanic soil, chowing down on the freshest seafood ever, visit tea and pineapple plantations, as well as taking in their historic culture. You have the opportunity to ” take a hike “swim or soak in thermal springs and enjoy their various chorizo sausages and unpasteurized cheese while sipping local wine. Sao Miguel is also known for world-class golfing and breathtaking walking trails. After five days in the Azores, you will be relaxed enough and ready to take on Porto (Oporto), which is the next city we fly into.
CHOWDOWN DOING PORTO
After two and a half hour flight, majestic Porto will be offered to you. Falling in love with this city is pretty straightforward, definitely my favorite. During our four night stay I have planned a walking food tour – cooking demonstration- and of course, we are participating in a Port Wine Tour in one of the century-old cellars. For exercise, we will head for the breathtaking Atlantic ocean beach by bicycle ( other transportation available ), enjoy a local lunch and just bear & grin. We will also introduce you to a taste of Fado music, Portugal’s famous melancholic form of singing. You will have plenty of time to explore the history and cultural sites on your own.
CHOWDOWN DOING SINTRA
Off by train to the magical city of Sintra, where for three days you will feel what enchanted means. Historic castles, beaches, and food mixed in with some Thai Chi activity are all part of the itinerary.
CHOWDOWN DOING LISBON
Lisbon is our last stop now that we are all relaxed and ready for some more adventures in this great historic city. Our last two nights are dedicated to more culinary adventures, and we will finish the tour in the famous part of the old city, Alfama, with an evening of Fado music and an authentic Portuguese feast.
