So, what exactly are we going to do?
Yes, indeed Chowdown is exploring yet a different continent, Africa it is!
We have been overwhelmed with the number of guests wanting to join us on this fantastic adventure since May and have been very active in putting this tour together. However, it is still “a work in progress”!!
Now we have to get serious, regarding the future Guest List with a maximum of 14 people to attend this tour.
Our Itinerary
I am excited to finally introduce to you Chowdown Morocco Tour. So without further ado here are the outlines for our 14-day adventures.
MARRAKESH (4 Nights)
Our Meet & Greet will be in Marrakesh, where we will get acquainted by sharing some authentic local food, talk about our itinerary and get acclimatized. We will spend four nights in an authentic local Riad within the walls of the Medina. There is nothing more thrilling than getting lost in the Medina, which pretty well everyone does at least once. However, no worries we have some locals guiding us and showing us the cultural as well the culinary spots of this energetic city.
Since you will want to learn how to prepare Tagine, we have an excellent Chef that will explain the fresh food market, where we will gather our groceries for our cooking class that day.
A City Biking Tour is also in the planning along with ” art of drinking tea in Morocco,” and many more adventures. Lunches and dinners are going to be adventures in itself, imagine rooftop restaurants, the hole in the wall little places, palatial settings with great designs and fantastic food just the usual Chowdown experiences. You will have some free time to explore a bit on your own.
THE SAHARA (4 Nights)
To get to the Sahara, I plan to make it a four day trip to and from the Sahara. It takes a while to move forward on those roads, but they are improving them, so distances are taking time. The idea is to visit less touristy places and more secret spots during our days on the road.
Our trip will take us over the Atlas Mountains, to waterfalls, Berber villages, learn about local agriculture, meet the weavers and the ceramic artist. A local artist will teach us how to paint with natural paints such as indigo- tea- and various other media. We will tour the famous Kasbah Ait Benhaddou ( Unesco Heritage) that they turned into a movie set for Lawrence of Arabia, Spartacus, Game of Throne and heaps more. Camel rides into the Sahara Beduin Camp last about 90 minutes.
We will spend two nights with loads of excellent stargazing, plus visiting a desert village, maybe go sandboarding or chill. On route to Essaouira, we have in mind various stops to interact with the locals and get to know their pottery, learn about Argan Oil, and visit a date farm.
* Those of you that are considering single accommodation, please be aware that during the 4 DAY SAHARA TOUR I might not be able to accommodate you with a single room.
ESSAOUIRA (5 Nights)
The Food City of Morocco also known as the “windy city”. Here we are lodging again inside the Medina, but I assure you it is hard to get lost in this ancient fishing town. Exploring the Medina will become part of the daily routine. Sardines and tuna are the freshest here and best eaten at the little grill stands.
And then there is the beach! Miles and miles of beach as far as the eyes can see, which you might have to share with camels and horses sometimes.
Ever wanted to learn how kiteflying or windsurfing? This would be the perfect place for you to try. If golf is your game, it is possible here. We will tour a beautiful local vineyard and indulge in wine and food in a high setting.
With food, music, charm, and scenery, there is something for everyone in Essaouira.
